Bloom Lab
We’re Lucie and Blanche, fascinated by the complexity of nature and driven to explore how interdisciplinary science can decode biology and inspire new ways of thinking. We met at EPFL, collaborating on coding projects and a startup, and discovered the thrill of building ambitious ideas together. At Harvard and MIT, we developed our first polymath project on aging and biological relativity, and back in Europe we founded Bloom Lab, reimagining how science can be done. So far, we’ve launched our social media presence on X and Instagram, published our first blog post on Substack, and planned a 3-day research hackathon at the SPH. Our main goal is to build a strong community of polymaths, empowering curiosity through events that bring together professors, industry leaders, and students from different fields to think deeply about life’s most important questions....
BuildMeUp
Empowering students to pursue a career in STEM (MINT). I want to inspire gymnasium-level students to discover robotics as a tool for solving real-world problems. By building and experimenting, they develop a mindset that blends human adaptiveness with machine capabilities. They should gain confidence in their skills and notice opportunities around them where technology can make a difference. Just as importantly, I want to demystify engineering by showing that progress comes from simplifying intelligently. As a student, I believed real engineering would be dull and “crazy complicated” because high-school simplifications wouldn’t apply. Now the goal is to show that choosing the right simplifications is powerful - and often the most exciting part of engineering: knowing what matters and what can be left out of the model. All models are wrong, but some are useful....

Floatz
floatz helps researchers find the most relevant and accurate science through novel AI architectures. 2 million scientific articles are published every year and, to make things worse, the disruptiveness of these articles has dropped by 90% over the last 50 years. How can a researcher find innovation in so much redundant information? The consequence is that researchers spend one year, on average, to write a successful project proposal that unlocks fundings. Practically, a researcher receives hundreds of articles every day from journals, newsletters etc. Most of it is irrelevant and they end up, after many hours, picking what seems useful while looking for novelty or impact. floatz provides a familiar and streamlined user experience. Researchers prompt for what they need and floatz uses AI to deliver relevant science and display it in a way that is easiest to digest. It combines the relevance capabilities of ChatGPT with the precision of scientific search engines like Google Scholar....
Hier Summts
Insects play a central role in our ecosystems. They are important for pollinating various plants and form a substantial part of the food chain. Unfortunately, the diversity and quantity of insects has declined sharply in recent years and decades. Where they used to hum loudly, they are now silent. There are many reasons for this, ranging from intensification of agriculture to changes in land use patterns to the increasing threat of climate change. It is imperative to protect insects and their diversity. For this reason, Hier Summts is committed to raising awareness about the diversity of insects, their benefits and insect mortality throughout Switzerland by educating members and the general public about the importance of insects to local ecosystems. General knowledge about insect conservation is to be conveyed in as many ways as possible, such as through school visits, excursions and lectures. So far, we have been able to offer various events on entomology and biodynamic viticulture which are open to both members and non-members. Join our events and/or association to learn and discover much more about insects! ...
Marmotian
Have you ever been inspired by an amazing article (e.g., on National Geographic, Scientific American, Wired)? Do you want to be the one to inspire people? The Internet has enough low-quality contents, especially on sciience and complex issues like environmental degradation. Books are too cumbersome for most people living a modern hustle lifestyle. The traditional magazine giants also settled in a specific niche with predictable content and is no longer producing novel inspiration. We need something better. The project Marmotian is launched recently (link below) after some grueling hours of rewriting and web design. It is intended to be an online magazine/inspiration hub. The main goal is the synthesize new knowlegde from diverse disiplines (~ philosophy to natural sciences, currently with a major focus on environmental issues), with a creative and story-telling style. Articles can range from an imaginative story, analytic essay, interview with experts about an exciting discovery or problem. There are 3 main sub-journals currently:1. Ideollurgy 2. Debatique 3. Poetry and shortsI am looking for teammates who share a passion of creating knowledge, creative writing, debate, graphic and web design, poetry, etc. Join me to spice up your life and mind!:) Contact me for more detail...

Recycling 3D Printer Plastics
After finding out that SPH doesn't recycle its waste plastic from the 3D printers, I wanted to do something about that. Recycling these plastics is possible, and with enough care taken to sort them, they can be reused for 3D printing with results comparable to original filament. The extrusion is then carried out with an Artme MK3. Most of the input material is failed 3D prints, design iterations, and support material. That needs to be sorted for a high quality result, removing impurities and other types of plastics. One difficulty for reaching a good quality result is purity: PLA and PETG need to be reliably separated. After shredding into granules, the material is extruded into 1.75+/-0.03mm filament. This is comparable to Prusa's commercial PRUSAMENT at 1.75+/-0.02mm. ...
ResearchReach
ResearchReach was developed during the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp at the University of Zurich to address the inefficiencies in academic research recruitment. The project was born from the challenges researchers face when managing participant recruitment, a process often marked by inefficiency and repetitive work. At the same time, many potential participants struggle to find studies they can join. Our platform bridges this gap, creating value for both sides. Our platform serves two main groups: participants and researchers. Participants gain access to a central portal where they can find studiesthat match their interests and background. For researchers, we provide a recruitment management system that streamlines tasks from outreach to screening and study enrollment. By automating these manual steps, researchers save time, reduce administrative burden, and can focus more on their research....
