Alter Ego
While buying clothes online, most customers are uncertain about the size that would fit them. Hence, 30% of the ordered articles are returned and handling these operations costs up to 50% of a company’s revenue. Half of these returns are reported to be due to size fitting issues and most of the articles are damaged during the process and then burned. Alter Ego provides a tool that will allow shoppers to have a real fitting room experience on their smartphones. Check out the Video: Users will have to download a few body pictures on our application which will create their Avatar: a 3D representation oftheir bodies with precise measurements. Users will then be able to use their “Alter Ego'' on shopping platforms, get sizerecommendations and even try the outfits on their avatars. This process will drastically reduce online returns, retailerswill be willing to pay a license to use the avatars and our system on their platform. ...
ArtSci
ArtSci celebrates the intersection of art and science through a two week exhibition held at ETH Zurich. ArtSci (“artsy”) started in 2018 as an idea that science should be accessible to all. At a time when our knowledge of the universe ranges from Higgs bosons to collisions of black holes, it is important to find creative ways to communicate the magic of new discoveries. This festival is open to everyone. Let your mind wander at the exhibition or even submit something yourself -- all that is needed is a piece (visual, auditory, multimedia, etc) that expresses science in an artistic way....

BrickMachine

Cellx
CellX is developing bacteria-based solutions for cost-efficient and sustainable treatment of industrial chemical waste.Industries producing hazardous chemical waste do not have access to adequate disposal methods. Conventional disposal methods are either filtering or concentrating recalcitrant pollutants to ultimately incinerate them. This incineration step is costly and and harmful as it emits large amounts of CO2.We provide a sustainable alternative to incineration. We create high-performance bacterial products to effectively degrade industrial chemicals. To find the right bacteria against specific pollutants, we use our patent-pending micro-techology to attract and capture bacteria in water environment. These bacteria are then scaled into waste treatment products capable of treating PFAS, pharmcaeuticals, pesticides and micro-plastics....

Heartful Hoops
I’ve always admired NGOs protecting endangered animals and threatened habitats, but as a student I couldn’t contribute financially. I also love earrings and noticed most animal jewelry looks overly cute instead of realistic, so I wanted to create pieces that show animals in their true form while supporting their protection. So far, I’ve launched my first collection featuring a cheetah and an antelope in gold and silver, and started working with WDC in Germany to create a second collection featuring dolphins. My main goal is to showcase animals in jewelry as detailed as possible while building a community that cares about wildlife....
Hier Summts
Insects play a central role in our ecosystems. They are important for pollinating various plants and form a substantial part of the food chain. Unfortunately, the diversity and quantity of insects has declined sharply in recent years and decades. Where they used to hum loudly, they are now silent. There are many reasons for this, ranging from intensification of agriculture to changes in land use patterns to the increasing threat of climate change. It is imperative to protect insects and their diversity. For this reason, Hier Summts is committed to raising awareness about the diversity of insects, their benefits and insect mortality throughout Switzerland by educating members and the general public about the importance of insects to local ecosystems. General knowledge about insect conservation is to be conveyed in as many ways as possible, such as through school visits, excursions and lectures. So far, we have been able to offer various events on entomology and biodynamic viticulture which are open to both members and non-members. Join our events and/or association to learn and discover much more about insects! ...
Hydrode
Green hydrogen is one of the most important pillars for a sustainable energy landscape in the next decade, and alkaline water electrolysis is so far the most mature industrial section for green hydrogen production. However, the efficiency of alkaline water electrolyzers (AWEs) is still limited to below 70% and the price is still much higher than nonrenewable energy sources such as fossil fuels. Our project focuses on enhancing the AWE efficiency and reducing the cost through scalable surface microengineering of the nickel electrodes. This innovation responds to boost the development of the cleanest renewable resource for a carbon-neutral future, which has broad potential customers ranging from academic researchers to energy companies seeking hydrogen-related solutions....

Labwear Studios
Labwear Studios is transforming fashion manufacturing to create a more equal, efficient and sustainable production solution. The fashion industry has a major sustainability problem. Clothing is produced in large quantities, shipped to Europe, put on sale and the remaining stock is tried to be sold with big discounts. However, 20-30% of the clothes produced cannot be sold and end up on a landfill. So far, the industry lacks an alternative model that prevents overproduction and eliminates market entry barriers, as currently the minimum quantities are too large for emerging designers to build their own brands with their own products.Team – Labwear Studios Labwear Studios manufactures clothing for fashion designers and brands in the best factories in Portugal starting at as few as 50 pieces. The production takes only 4-6 weeks, instead of the usual 6 months in Asia. The production system of Labwear is based on the idea of "Lean Manufacturing" and applies this system of the car industry to the fashion industry. Labwear optimizes production to the smallest possible quantities to produce more agile, faster, and without overproduction. In addition, the garments are designed for a circular economy. Finally, all designers are empowered to give free rein to their creativity and develop better fashion....

Introducing niatsu, a groundbreaking startup determined to revolutionize the way CO2 emissions are calculated in the food industry. Leveraging the power of machine learning, niatsu aims to automate the process, providing a cost-effective and time-saving alternative for businesses. By addressing the key pillars of the problem, niatsu's solution offers a transformative approach to transparency and sustainability....
Recycling 3D Printer Plastics
After finding out that SPH doesn't recycle its waste plastic from the 3D printers, I wanted to do something about that. Recycling these plastics is possible, and with enough care taken to sort them, they can be reused for 3D printing with results comparable to original filament. The extrusion is then carried out with an Artme MK3. Most of the input material is failed 3D prints, design iterations, and support material. That needs to be sorted for a high quality result, removing impurities and other types of plastics. One difficulty for reaching a good quality result is purity: PLA and PETG need to be reliably separated. After shredding into granules, the material is extruded into 1.75+/-0.03mm filament. This is comparable to Prusa's commercial PRUSAMENT at 1.75+/-0.02mm. ...
Sustainable Business Club
Our aim is to raise awareness of sustainability in business and offer students a platform to get involved in sustainable business practices. We encourage members to shape their academic and professional careers in a sustainable way. The idea for the Sustainable Business Club was born at the University of Zurich. We noticed a lack of emphasis on sustainability in business lectures and academic curriculum.
