empower is an initiative to scalably deploy battery storage in European electricity distribution grids, supercharging the energy transition.

In order to support an increasing amount of renewable energy and volatile weather and market conditions, Europe's power grids must rapidly scale up battery storage to store excess energy and use it intelligently.
We work on concepts that bring together power grids, real estate owners, private households and local businesses and develop economic and technical solutions to benefit from the network effects of local energy communities.

The project started when we were looking for alternatives to photovoltaics to save electricity costs for private households. Often, a PV system is not realizable but a battery installation is compact and much cheaper. However, home battery storage is underused compared to large-scale installations which also actively help to balance the power grid. This is why we wanted to find ways of incentivizing privately-owned battery storage while also enabling their use beyond self-consumption.
