By building and experimenting, they develop a mindset that blends human adaptiveness with machine capabilities. They should gain confidence in their skills and notice opportunities around them where technology can make a difference. Just as importantly, I want to demystify engineering by showing that progress comes from simplifying intelligently. As a student, I believed real engineering would be dull and “crazy complicated” because high-school simplifications wouldn’t apply. Now the goal is to show that choosing the right simplifications is powerful - and often the most exciting part of engineering: knowing what matters and what can be left out of the model. All models are wrong, but some are useful....

To create a culture of sustainability and self-repair within the student community, reducing waste and promoting resourcefulness by empowering students to fix their belongings instead of discarding them.Until now we carried out more than **10 Repair Cafés**, where we provide tools, assistance and support, coffee and snacks. We **fixed a lot of stuff**, such as: clothing items, small electronics, furniture.Our main goal is to keep empowering students to repair their belongings and host many more Repair Cafés.The Student Repair Café started organically with Roman (ETH alumnus) and Maxime (PhD student), who loved tinkering, fixing things, and taking on technical challenges. They soon brought in Serena, who worked at the SPH Makerspace and shared their passion for hands-on repairs. Since July 2025, we talked to over 20 care home staff to understand their needs, built our first prototype in August and ran 8 demos in September. After improving the system in October, we now offer weekly movement sessions in three care homes until the end of 2025. Our goal is to make exercise fun, easy to use, and possible without staff support. Next, we plan to involve students as session leaders and later create a version that residents can use more independently. I, Aurel Berger, am a Movement Scientist from ETH Zurich and was inspired by my own grandparents’ struggles with mobility loss and rehabilitation. Seeing how quickly my once-sportive grandfather lost his independence in a care home motivated me to create a more engaging way to stay active. We are two co-founders developing bio-acoustic technologies to measure the state of biodiversity. Students receive a virtual portfolio in which they can invest as they wish, and the prices are those of the real market. So with VirtualAlpha there is no financial risk. VirtualAlpha offers many functionalities that are also available on the real market, such as limits and stops, and of course dividends are paid out. In addition, there are various statistics to assess the success of one's own strategy. The platform is very user-friendly and intuitive, so that students can navigate quickly and easily.
