Projects

3D Printer Kit
The Project 3D Printer Kit aims to provide Makerspace users with an instruction manual for constructing a 3D printer using materials available at SPH Makerspace. The manual will detail the specific SPH machines and tools required for the assembly. Additionally, it will guide users on how to acquire components not stocked in the Makerspace shop, such as extruders and electronic boards. This project aims to offer ETH students a platform for learning about and delving into 3D printer design....
Bloom Lab
We’re Lucie and Blanche, fascinated by the complexity of nature and driven to explore how interdisciplinary science can decode biology and inspire new ways of thinking. We met at EPFL, collaborating on coding projects and a startup, and discovered the thrill of building ambitious ideas together. At Harvard and MIT, we developed our first polymath project on aging and biological relativity, and back in Europe we founded Bloom Lab, reimagining how science can be done. So far, we’ve launched our social media presence on X and Instagram, published our first blog post on Substack, and planned a 3-day research hackathon at the SPH. Our main goal is to build a strong community of polymaths, empowering curiosity through events that bring together professors, industry leaders, and students from different fields to think deeply about life’s most important questions....

Engineers for Science
Engineers for Science is an initiative around promoting software engineering best practices in research. We believe that great science requires great software. Unfortunately, many researchers struggle to write effective code, leading to poor software quality, slowing down scientific progress. That's where we come in. We connect researchers with experienced software engineers from the industry who can provide valuable feedback and guidance on best practices for software development. You can learn about some of these principles in our blog. By partnering with Engineers for Science, researchers can ensure that their software is a robust tool for their research and not a hindrance, enabling them to focus on their scientific discoveries. But it's not just about helping researchers. Our initiative also benefits software engineers who are looking to gain experience in mentorship and leadership. By working with researchers, the engineers can gain valuable insights into the latest scientific discoveries and can apply their skills in new and exciting ways. Join Engineers for Science today and help us bridge the gap between science and software engineering. Together, we can create better software and drive scientific progress forward....

Fix Your Stuff: Student Repair Cafè Zürich
To create a culture of sustainability and self-repair within the student community, reducing waste and promoting resourcefulness by empowering students to fix their belongings instead of discarding them.Until now we carried out more than **10 Repair Cafés**, where we provide tools, assistance and support, coffee and snacks. We **fixed a lot of stuff**, such as: clothing items, small electronics, furniture. Our main goal is to keep empowering students to repair their belongings and host many more Repair Cafés.The Student Repair Café started organically with Roman (ETH alumnus) and Maxime (PhD student), who loved tinkering, fixing things, and taking on technical challenges. They soon brought in Serena, who worked at the SPH Makerspace and shared their passion for hands-on repairs. Together, they turned their idea into a community-driven initiative where students can repair, learn, and connect....
MEWELL
MeWell is a young student and staff organization with the focus on providing both professional and community-focused activities around raising awareness of mental wellbeing and fighting metal health stigma at the universities in Zurich. For this purpose, MeWell offers a range of engaging activities focused on fighting mental health stigma in academia. Our events cover two main areas: 1. Mental health awareness Our mental health awareness program consists of educational activities which inform and teach our community about various aspects of mental health such as: promoting mental wellbeing, recognizing the signs and symptoms of poor mental health, and talks covering current research. Each month, we tackle a different topic together with an expert in the field. 2. Community outreach social events Our community outreach events offer an opportunity for our community to directly interact with each other and our team. Orbiit
Orbiit is a compatibility-based matchmaking platform for both friends and partners. Users create a profile and complete a survey focused on values, communication style, needs, and goals. Instead of offering endless options, we provide curated matches designed for genuine alignment. When both people agree, we coordinate the logistics to help them meet in real life. Orbiit was created in response to growing swipe fatigue and superficial digital interactions. We noticed that many platforms optimize for engagement rather than real compatibility. Orbiit was built to shift the focus back to quality, clarity, and meaningful in-person connection. We’ve launched our first in-person matchmaking events and attracted over 100+ early users through word-of-mouth and campus outreach. Our main goal is to develop a research-backed dating app that offers compatibility-based matching and real-world meetups, creating a more intentional and emotionally intelligent way to date. The project started after a breakup, when one of the co-founders began dating again and realised the dating world felt disconnected and surface-level. She shared her experience with her best friend and now co-founder, and together they decided to create a platform that could offer something better. Fly into Orbiit with us....

The Student Biolab
The Student Biolab is a platform and a community for students to design, prototype, and implement their life science research and product ideas. We are a group of motivated students, sharing biology and biotechnology as common passion. Our team is extremely interdisciplinary: we are biologists, engineers, computer scientists. We were born last February but we have already achieved an important milestone: having our own wet lab. Here we run experimental workshops, build startup prototypes and, in general, meet with passionate people to share thoughts and ideas. Our lab is a place where to work on your own project; we are equipped with modern biology instrumentation that can be freely used. But that’s not all. We are building a strong network with corporate Industry partners, to transform the lab in a space where we can answer to the need and demands of the market. We are progressively growing, and we are open to welcome new passionate people. Are you ready to join us?...
