Caterra
We enable herbicide-free precision farming for a sustainable future. Weeding is a significant problem in farming coupled with high costs. Conventionally, herbicides are used to treat the problem, but with more being prohibited every year, as well as a general trend to organic farming, alternatives are needed. While weeds between crop rows can be removed by tractor mounted cultivators, weeds within the rows must be removed by hand. However, with the increasing number of organic farmers, the required workforce is difficult to find and automation is necessary. We propose a small autonomous rover which drives through the field and removes weeds close to the crops using a laser-based module. Any vegetable grown in a row is a possible....
DIAVOLO
We are two long-time friends, a certified beer sommelier and a 10 years homebrewer, both engineers, who wanted to enjoy our favorite beers without having to bear with the consequences of alcohol. As long distance runners, we like to reward ourselves after a run and crafted the ideal beers for these events! We've secured our industrial production and launched our first beer in the first bars. DIAVOLO wants to give everyone the chance to choose the beer they deserve....
Fencyboy
Monitoring large electric fences for livestock (think of Australia) takes a lot of effort. Fencyboy makes a farmer's life much easier by providing a digital twin of the fence in the cloud.Multiple Fencyboys have been shipped to testers worldwide: Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, USA, South Africa and deployed locally here in Switzerland. Taking all the feedback into account, better versions of Fencyboy have been developed iteratively with a longer battery life of 3 years and a more durable enclosure for harsh environments.Background: One night, I had to catch our neighbor’s horse, which got loose after the pasture fence broke and went unnoticed while they were away on vacation. Fungilumiscence
We want to make edible mushrooms bioluminesce through gene technology. A further goal would be to make them bioluminesce when high heavy metal levels are detected in soil. We started the project when our project leader, Lorenzo, was reading a book about fungi (as one does) and read about the luciferin/luciferase mechanism in glowing fungi. Fascinated, he immediately texted his colleagues whether they would be interested in creating some edible bioluminescent fungi, to which they replied “hell yeah”....

Greenioty is an open source vertical farming project. We are creating adaptable and replicable vertical farming systems, that can be installed directly on site, e.g. in restaurants, canteens, supermarkets, or other public spaces. Our goal is to develop urban and vertical farming solutions to produce tastier, healthier, and more sustainable food while sharing all the documentation and data to enable anyone to produce food anywhere, at any time. We want to inspire and influence people to produce and consume better food and are aiming to reduce the huge gap of the current food system between the consumers and the producers....

SmartBreed GmbH
SmartBreed manufactures automated breeding boxes for grasshoppers. These can be set up directly at the customer's site and allow zoos, farmers and food manufacturers to produce their own protein. The grasshoppers convert agricultural by-products in the boxes and are then further fed or processed by our customers. An innovative, locally integrated value chain created in this way strengthens the competitiveness of local ag-riculture and offers future-proof and sustainable added value through the circular economy concept. Our goal is to enable decentralized breeding of grasshoppers directly at our customers. This enables them to breed grasshoppers efficiently and cost-effectively, thus making optimal use of otherwise thrown away resources and closing circular loops....
Synature
We are two co-founders developing bio-acoustic technologies to measure the state of biodiversity. The aim of Synature is to make biodiversity quantifiable and to therefore enable a better co-existence of humans and nature. This involves recording sound and using AI and signal processing to analyse the gathered data. Synature has a holistic offering including smart microphones that send audio recordings from the field, automated analysis of the gathered data and a dashboard that displays the data in an easy-to-understand way.Highlights of Synature include a paid pilot project with the Swiss National Park and the Yellowstone National Park focusing on acoustic wolf detection, media appearances on national television, market exploration in South Africa and India, paid pilot projects in Valais and Paris and multiple awards....
VZ Labs
Our current mission is to uncover and craft the mechanics through which commerce will be conducted in a 5 year horizon. We are currently building Châtaigne, a service that allows restaurants to sell their food fully automatically, through natural language, on WhatsApp. We met at a San Francisco hackathon where we built Pay Parrot, a conversational commerce tool using LLMs, Stripe, and WhatsApp and won first place.After lunch with Stripe's CTO John Collison, we realized conversational interfaces could transform commerce entirely. We returned to Switzerland obsessed with the idea and launched Châtaigne to tackle food delivery first, choosing the industry's complexity as our proving ground....
