HOW TO GET INVOLVED WITH A PROJECT

Sometimes projects are looking for new members. Others will be happy to chat with you about their work. Been invited to join an existing team? Get ready to grow together in our friendly, open community.

Sign up for a Project Support onboarding to become a member and officially join the team. This is required to use the SPH co-working space and be part of our community.

The content of the project pages is created independently by the SPH Projects.

Builtstop
Builtstop makes cities safer and more sustainable by improving buildings earthquake safety. Our technology, NegSV, provides a non-invasive, cost-effective, eco-conscious retrofit that protects structures, saves lives, and extends building lifespans. Builtstop develops NegSV, a non-invasive and cost-effective device that reduces earthquake damage in existing buildings. We have validated the technology through analytical studies, numerical simulations, and a scaled shaking-table experiment at ETH Zürich. Our next step is full-scale experiment testing and preparing the device for certification. Our goal is to deliver a practical, affordable retrofitting solution that protects buildings All four co-founders share a common academic background in civil engineering. Three of them first connected through a European program on seismic safety, which sparked their collaboration. The fourth co-founder followed a more entrepreneurial path but also has strong experience in engineering and business and is the brother of one of the founders. Together, they formed a strong and complementary team whose diverse expertise enables technological innovation for Builtstop....
Hydrode
Green hydrogen is one of the most important pillars for a sustainable energy landscape in the next decade, and alkaline water electrolysis is so far the most mature industrial section for green hydrogen production. However, the efficiency of alkaline water electrolyzers (AWEs) is still limited to below 70% and the price is still much higher than nonrenewable energy sources such as fossil fuels. Our project focuses on enhancing the AWE efficiency and reducing the cost through scalable surface microengineering of the nickel electrodes. This innovation responds to boost the development of the cleanest renewable resource for a carbon-neutral future, which has broad potential customers ranging from academic researchers to energy companies seeking hydrogen-related solutions....
VZ Labs
Our current mission is to uncover and craft the mechanics through which commerce will be conducted in a 5 year horizon. We are currently building Châtaigne, a service that allows restaurants to sell their food fully automatically, through natural language, on WhatsApp. We met at a San Francisco hackathon where we built Pay Parrot, a conversational commerce tool using LLMs, Stripe, and WhatsApp and won first place. After lunch with Stripe's CTO John Collison, we realized conversational interfaces could transform commerce entirely. We returned to Switzerland obsessed with the idea and launched Châtaigne to tackle food delivery first, choosing the industry's complexity as our proving ground....
